Winter Wanderings

Now its the time of year when the Salmon fishing has well and truly stopped I am drawn to dipping in and out of various interesting old Game Fishing books. This maybe alright in the short term but its no substitute for getting out there- Now is the time to go shooting!

Thankfully, I'm lucky enough to have some good shooting available. Most of my shooting escapades revolve around getting up stupidly early or going out at dusk and standing around on the marsh waiting for some un-suspecting Ducks to fly within range.
They often do, its just a case of being ready and looking in the right direction, sounds easy enough? Add the distraction of hammering rain gale force winds, darkness (ideal conditions) and utterly cold, wet and miserable. Still sound easy? I have no idea why I love Wildfowling so much, on paper it sounds totally crap. There is something strangely satisfying about the hours of endured hardship in stunning scenery with my faithful, loveable, although a tad stupid dog.

If we shoot something its a bonus, and cause for celebration (roast duck dinner and a beer).

In summary, its not so different from Salmon fishing!
